Kwara State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), has expressed disappointment over the delay in the payment of Teachers Specific Allowances, TSA.
A statement by the state Chairman, Comrade Yusuf Wahab Agboola and the Deputy Secretary-General, Mike Modesty, frowned at the graveyard silence of the state government on the payment of the Teachers Specific Allowances (TSA).
The union lamented that despite several engagements, the government had failed to address the 27.5% and 21% TSA owed to teachers.
However, the leadership of the union, after meeting with critical stakeholders in Ilorin on Tuesday, resolved that before issuing a formal ultimatum or embarking on a showdown, teachers in the state would observe a day of fasting and prayer to seek divine intervention.
While acknowledging the government’s approval of financial backing for the 2024 TESCOM promotion, the union insisted that welfare issues, especially the allowances, remained a priority for teachers’ motivation and productivity.
The NUT urged teachers across the state to remain calm and await further directives from the leadership.
