Alhaji Muttaka Dalhatu, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with members of his executive committee and several ward chairpersons.
The group was officially welcomed on Wednesday at the Abuja residence of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Dalhatu stated that their decision came after extensive consultations and dissatisfaction with the current PDP-led administration in Zamfara, especially concerning security issues.
He commended Matawalle’s achievements as a former governor, highlighting his efforts to tackle security challenges during his time in office.
Dalhatu claimed that the current administration has failed to meet significant campaign promises and has prioritized political conflicts over effective governance.
He emphasized that the defectors are resolute in distancing themselves from any attempts to tarnish Matawalle’s reputation for political gain.
“As residents of Maradun, we refuse to participate in any actions that would undermine the standing of our son, who has played a vital role in the development and stability of the state,” he remarked.
Among those who joined the APC with Dalhatu were the Maradun PDP Secretary, Alhaji Sani Ibrahim JB Danbaza; former State Assembly aspirant Hon. Bashar Muhammad Danbaza; PDP Chairman of Damaga Ward, Mallam Umar Attahiru; and PDP Youth Leader of Gora Namaye Ward, Hon. Zayyanu Yakubu.
Dalhatu further mentioned that plans are in progress to welcome additional PDP members in the upcoming days.
In welcoming the defectors, Matawalle described the APC as an inclusive party dedicated to the welfare of its members. He assured the newcomers of equal opportunities within the party and pledged support to help them contribute significantly to its growth and success.
