As residents of Ogun State get ready for the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations, the police in the state have announced that the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts, and bangers remain prohibited.
The police public relations officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, emphasized that the loud noises generated by these items can easily be misinterpreted as gunshots or explosions, which can lead to fear, panic, and unnecessary anxiety among residents.
He cautioned that anyone found to be causing public disturbances, injuries, or property damage will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
According to him, the command has implemented extensive security measures to ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the state.
Babaseyi revealed that the state commissioner of police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has instructed area commanders, divisional police officers, and all tactical units to enhance patrols and increase police presence in residential neighborhoods, markets, motor parks, places of worship, hospitals, and along major highways.
The statement reads, “The Command reminds the public that the ban on the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts, and bangers is still in effect. The loud sounds produced by these items can easily be mistaken for gunshots or explosions, often creating fear, panic, and unnecessary tension among residents.
“Parents and guardians are encouraged to warn their children and wards against the use of fireworks, as anyone whose actions lead to public disturbance, injury, or property damage will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.”
The Commissioner, while urging residents to celebrate peacefully, adhere to the law, and cooperate fully with all security agencies, encouraged them to report any suspicious activities or security concerns through the command’s emergency lines: Gateway Shield (General Complaints Line – Toll Free): 0800 000 9111.
