WWE SummerSlam Night Two Highlights: Roman Reigns Triumphs Over Seth Rollins in a Legendary Showdown

ROMAN REIGNS finally banished the demons of Seth Rollins and defeated his former Shield brother at SummerSlam.

And the pair hit the Shield pose together one last time to symbolise the end of their iconic faction and an ever-lasting respect between the pair.

Rollins and Reigns stood in solidarity after their intense clash and paid respect to their past

Reigns and Rollins had a nervy feeling out process to kick off the contest that was full of mind games and posturing to the crowd.

The pair would then fight out into the crowd and around the stadium as two of the most popular stars in the company brought the stadium to fever pitch.

It was a typical classic WWE main event. Both Rollins and Reigns hit their finishers for near falls. They also hit each other’s moves to just miss out on victory.

They paid homage to Dean Ambrose/Jon Moxley with the Dirty Deeds DDT and Rollins doing the AEW star’s patented rebound through the ring ropes.

But it all changed when Reigns accidentally speared the referee.

Reigns had the chance to hit Rollins with a chair in the back just as his former stablemate did to him back in 2014 when The Shield split.

But he resisted, suggesting he is ready to let that obsession go.

Three spears later, Reigns got the victory he needed the most.

Kevin Owens def. Sami Zayn, Gunther and Finn Balor – Undisputed WWE World Heavyweight title number one contendership

Yes, you read that right! What was originally a one-on-one match between Sami Zayn and Finn Balor to become the number one contender turned into Nick Aldis adding his foe from last night, Gunther, and the emotional return of Kevin Owens after nearly 18 months away.

Owens ended up landing a Stunner to dash Zayn’s dreams and complete a dream comeback.

Baron Corbin def. Trick Williams (c) – United States championship

Corbin took advantage of a distraction to nail the champion

Chelsea Green def. Charlotte Flair, Lash Legend, Jade Cargill and Tiffany Stratton – Ladder match for the interim Women’s world title

Chelsea Green shocked the world to secure her first world title in WWE – even if it is an interim one. She was perhaps the least favoured superstar to win this ladder match, but her penchant for risky moves and connection with the crowd has been undeniable for a while.

She had the guts to take the fight to friend Tiffany Stratton and managed to take advatange of the chaos in the match to rise up and grab the belt. The crowd went crazy for the win – beautiful stuff.

Danhausen def. Dominik Mysterio – Human monies on a pole match

I mean, on paper this is a ridiculous match but you cannot deny it is entertaining! For the most part, anyway. The mini-hausens are not my cup of tea, but the crowd reacts to them at least.

Joe Hendry turned up to equalise things with JD McDonagh but the climax of the match saw Danhausen curse Mysterio as he went to grab the money from the pole, causing fireworks to explode and send him reeling. That allowed WWE’s most popular act to grab the win.

Chad Gable def. Penta (c) – Intercontinental title

This was a typical classic, technical contest between two of the best bell-to-bell wrestlers on the planet. Penta brought the high-flying, risky manoeuvres while Gable complemented the Mexican with some world class grappling and a splash of lucha skills he picked up as El Grande Americano.

But once Gable had Penta trapped in the ankle lock and he sat back to synch it in, Gable won the first singles title of his long WWE career and in front of his hometown crowd. A warm moment after the match saw Penta wrap the belt around Gable’s waist and embrace him before the Minnesota native’s kids and parents entered the ring with him. WWE’s desperation for ad revenue led to a mug root beer mascot getting involved in the celebrations – a little bit of a tone deaf move.
