Just before the hour mark, referee Peter Bankes booked Martinez for a pull on Morgan Rogers’ shirt.

Then just 83 seconds later, from a corner that came from the free-kick he gave away, ran straight into with his arm raised and caught the defender in the face.

After a VAR check, a penalty was given to the home side and Martinez was given his marching orders in the 63rd minute.

This means that he will be suspended for one match.

Why is Lisandro Martinez not suspended for Man Utd vs Roma?

Since the red card was given in a Premier League match, he will not serve his one-match ban against today, as red card suspensions in the league do not carry over to Uefa competitions.

Roma travel to Old Trafford to play Man Utd, hoping to continue their strong start, with one loss in all competitions this season.

The Italian side have scored 16 goals in the last four games, which includes a 5-2 win over Udinese on the weekend

This means Martinez is available to try and help Man Utd turn their fortunes around after the club’s .

He will serve his suspension against Aston Villa this Sunday as looks to ease pressure from above and pull his side away from a relegation battle.

Without Martinez, United will have to shuffle the defence to try and stop in-form Nicholas Jackson, who has eight goals this season.
