Thomas Tuchel’s side got their World Cup campaign off to a perfect start by beating Croatia 4-2 last night.

The German’s ranks were subsequently bolstered by Chalobah’s arrival into the camp.

Chalobah was initially left out of Tuchel’s 26-man squad for the World Cup.

But the Chelsea defender received a late call-up to replace injured Tino Livramento.

The Newcastle full-back was part of the original squad and travelled to the US with the Three Lions.

A subsequent calf injury ahead forced him to withdraw ahead of England’s opener against Croatia.

Tuchel, 52, said: “Tino was very disappointed and very sad, all of us were.

“It was a shock in training and when he stopped training he had the feeling that this could be an injury that costs him the tournament, he was unfortunately right.

“Tino has an injury of four or five weeks which is unfortunately too long to reintegrate him into the squad.”

Livramento had come into the tournament as an injury concern, having only made 17 Premier League appearances last season and not featured for Newcastle since April 18.

He played 45 minutes of England’s warm-up friendly against New Zealand before being an unused substitute for the Costa Rica clash.

Chalobah was called up as his replacement having featured 47 times in all competitions for Chelsea last term.

The Blues academy graduate has earned one England cap to date, in last summer’s shock 3-1 home friendly defeat to Senegal.

He last featured in a squad last November.
