72-Year-Old Woman Sentenced for Stabbing Husband, Claims He Fell on Knife While Bringing Lunch to the Kitchen

A KILLER wife has been jailed for stabbing her husband to death after claiming he fell on a knife while carrying a lunch tray into the kitchen.

Daryl Berman, 72, plunged the blade into dementia-stricken David Berman, 84, while at home in Manchester.

The pensioner then claimed he had accidentally stabbed himself while taking her tray with a plate, cup and knife into the kitchen.

Berman told she heard a sound before David told her: “It’s OK, I slipped”.

She then claimed her husband of 28 years groaned before collapsing face down in the kitchen.

Officers initially believed Berman’s account but the gruesome truth unravelled five days later following a post-mortem that showed the wound had been inflicted.

The killer wife has now been jailed for life with a minimum of 12 years after she was found guilty of .

But she did not begin CPR until more than six minutes into the call and at one point left the phone to answer a call in the other room.

When officers arrived at the marital home, Berman told police: “You don’t think I murdered him do you?”

Investigators noted she appeared “very calm and matter of fact” and had very little blood on her clothing – despite claiming she had rolled her husband over after finding him injured.

Pathologists later ruled out the possibility of an accidental injury and concluded the wound had been deliberately inflicted.

They also found a stab wound to his right middle finger, which is commonly associated with people trying to defend themselves from a knife attack.

Police also found she had opened her phone but not made an emergency call until 25 seconds later.

Sazeeda Ismail, of the CPS, said: “Daryl Berman stabbed her husband of 27 years in the chest and intentionally caused his death.

“She lied to paramedics, police and family members when she claimed Mr Berman had accidentally sustained his fatal injuries.

“The jury saw through her lies and convicted her of murder due to the strength of the prosecution’s case.

“My thoughts are with David Berman’s loved ones at this very difficult time.”
