Windstorm destroys Dawakin Kudu Stadium in Kano

Published on June 24, 2025 at 09:18 AM

A powerful windstorm has destroyed a section of the Abdullahi Umar Ganduje Stadium in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State, forcing the closure of the facility.

The storm occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and ripped off parts of the stadium’s roofing, leaving the facility unsafe for use.

The stadium was commissioned in 2018 by the then Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

It quickly became the most functional and modern sports facilities outside Kano metropolis. It has since served as a vital hub for local sports development, youth engagement, and community interaction.
