A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State in 2027, Dr Ayobami Lam-Adesina has declared that majority of those who attended public schools cannot allow their children study there again because of the rot in the sector.

Lam-Adesina who is one of the sons of a former governor of the state, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina spoke at a programme organised by Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ibadan on Wednesday.

He noted that the quality of education in public schools in the past cannot be compared to what is obtainable currently.

According to him, this is the main reason why majority of those who passed through the public schools cannot allow their children to go there to study.

Lam-Adesina while speaking on the rationale behind his ambition, noted that he is in the race to change the face of education in the state.

He noted that he wants to govern the state in line with the philosophy of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, late Bola Ige and his father, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina.

Lam-Adesina said, “Can any of us here send our own children to the schools we attended? We cannot compare the quality of education we received with what is on ground today.

“When children come out of schools, they don’t have jobs. That is why I am contesting. We must have public schools that deliver the quality of education that we have in the past. The present must be better than the past. Can we say that the Yorubaland, the South West is better than what we have in the past?

“These are some of the things that we have that made me to offer myself. I will improve the quality of education, healthcare services. So, for me if you ask me, I will be able to make sure that the future of our children is better than today.

“There is a need for local government autonomy. If they don’t have local government autonomy, how will they perform? We have a number of farm settlements, give them what they need, they will improve the agricultural sector.
It was the revenue of Cocoa that was used to establish Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, build Cocoa House in Ibadan and do some other things. I will focus on education, agriculture, health.

“As far as APC is concerned, the philosophy of Adesina, Bola Ige, Awolowo still guides us. The Lamist philosophy is embedded in the philosophy of Bola Ige and Awolowo.”
