President Bola Tinubu has not canceled his planned trips to South Africa and Angola for various reasons.

These reasons were outlined by Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, through his X page on Tuesday.

The president has faced criticism for proceeding with his trip, despite the recent rise in killings and kidnappings.

However, Olusegun stated: “The G20 summit is taking place on African soil for the first time, marking a significant milestone for the continent. President Bola Tinubu’s attendance will demonstrate Nigeria’s acknowledgment of this milestone while providing an opportunity to advocate for Africa’s role in global affairs.

“President Tinubu aims to build upon the achievements of the previous G20 summit in Rio by engaging with global partners to shape policies and exchange ideas on various issues impacting the global economy.

“This will also serve as a platform to unveil new business opportunities for Nigeria as it strives to enhance existing relationships and forge new ones with global business leaders and investors.

“Given that security will be a primary topic of discussion, the summit provides President Tinubu with a platform to present Nigeria’s true circumstances while simultaneously fostering regional and global partnerships to address terrorism in Nigeria and, by extension, sub-Saharan Africa.

“Additionally, ongoing reforms in Nigeria will be a topic of discussion.

“To prevent any governance vacuum, Vice President Kashim Shettima has been assigned to visit Kebbi, where the incident of schoolgirls' kidnapping was reported this week.

“Security forces and federal agencies have been instructed to prioritize rescue and relief operations, ensuring operational continuity at home.

“This represents a clear division of responsibilities: the President will pursue strategic, multilateral solutions and high-level partnerships at the G20, while the Vice-President and security chiefs will manage immediate, domestic responses.”
