A nine-year-old schoolgirl was heard screaming in fear as she was attacked by an XL bully-type dog in a horrifying incident.

The schoolgirl, Eva, experienced this brutal assault on Sunday while walking home from a local store with her mother.

Two loose dogs—an XL bully-type and another mixed breed—approached Eva and her mother, Alicia Isaura, in Erdington.

In a panic, Eva began to run away from the two dogs, with the large XL bully chasing after her.

The dog caught up to Eva and launched an unprovoked attack on the fleeing child.

The dog bit Eva's left leg, clamping down and locking its jaws around the young girl's limb.

During the chaos, two men attempted to assist, jumping out of a car to try to pull the dog off Eva.

Witnesses reported that the two dogs were not on leashes and their owner was nowhere in sight.

Both dogs were described as “XL Bully-types,” one being “light brown or tan, and the other dark brown.”

It was the dark brown dog that latched onto Eva's leg as she fled.

In horror, Eva’s terrified mother heard her daughter scream for help.

The nine-year-old was heard crying out for her mother, shouting: “I’m going to die.”

Eva’s mother told Birmingham Live : “She was crying and screaming. Then she began to shiver as she went into shock. Once these dogs have locked their jaws, you can’t get them off.”

Describing the brutal attack, Alicia said the dog eventually released Eva’s leg but immediately renewed its assault, going for the schoolgirl’s arm.

The distraught mother explained: “It came for Eva and showed no interest in me or the people trying to pull it off her. It was horrific.

“Eva also has a small scratch on her head from when someone tried to kick the dog off and accidentally kicked her at the same time.”

As the mauling continued, Eva’s older sister was alerted and ran from their home upon hearing her little sister’s screams.

She witnessed the shocking scene and called 999 just as two men managed to free Eva from the dog’s jaws by “hitting it with everything they had.”

As another bystander appeared with towels to help stop Eva’s bleeding, the other dog reportedly just stood by and watched.

Alicia said her daughter’s screams of “I’m going to die” will haunt her forever.

The aftermath of the brutal mauling has left both Eva and her mother traumatized.

Shortly after the dog was pulled away from the girl, ambulance crews arrived on the scene.

Eva was rushed to Children’s Hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries.

The nine-year-old required surgery on her leg, and her mother mentioned that more procedures will be necessary.

Eva will also need physical therapy and experienced numbness in parts of her leg following the terrifying attack.

A spokesperson for the Ambulance Service stated: “We were called to reports of a patient who had been bitten by a dog on Springthorpe Green at 6:42 PM on Sunday (November 16).

“One ambulance attended the scene. Upon arrival, we found one patient, a girl, who was treated for potentially serious injuries before being transported to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.”

The dog that attacked Eva is believed to still be at large while the incident is under investigation.

Eva’s father expressed his fear that other children could be at risk of a similar attack if the dogs are not contained.

A spokesperson for the Police said: “We are investigating after a child was bitten by a dog in Erdington this weekend.

“We were contacted shortly before 7 PM on Sunday following the incident, which resulted in a girl being taken to the hospital for further treatment.

“Inquiries are ongoing to locate the dog and its owner, and anyone who has information about what occurred or witnessed the incident can call 101, quoting log 3474 of November 16.”

Which dog breeds are banned in the UK?

People often envision large, aggressive dogs when they think about the risk of being bitten.

However, it's important to note that many types of dogs can bite humans, whether provoked or not.

Nonetheless, just because a breed is known to bite, it does not mean that all individual dogs of that breed will do so.

British law specifies five breeds of dogs that are illegal to own, breed, sell, or give away.

These breeds include the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, F
