WAFCON 2024: Botswana President demands victory against Super Falcons, others

Published on June 17, 2025 at 01:29 PM

Botswana President Duma Boko has charged the country’s women’s national team, the Mares, to go all out for the trophy at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Gaolethloo Nkutlwisang’s side will be making their second appearance at the biennial competition.

The Mares failed to make it beyond the group stage in their maiden appearance two years ago in Morocco.

They will face nine-time champions Nigeria, Tunisia and Algeria in Group B.

Boko, who hosted the team on the eve of their departure to Morocco, tasked the players to do the nation proud.

“The best attitude to take into the field is to enjoy yourself. It’s about unity, team spirit, and trusting in your ability. Keep believing, and remember the whole country stands firmly behind you,”; he stated in his address.

Botswana will open their campaign against Algeria in Casablanca on Sunday, 6 July.
