But it seems that that the 36-year-old is moving on from his heartbreak, and is now able to poke fun at the painful memory.
When appearing alongside Van Veen for a promotional video for Cinch UK, in which both stars had a chat in the front seats of a car, Van Gerwen did not hesitate to joke about the serious topic.
The pair fielded a variety of fan questions, including one asking Mighty Mike what his best meal to cook is.
Van Veen then asked if he cooked himself, to which MVG responded with a grin: “I have to.”
He laughed with Van Veen and continued: “When you are a divorced man you have to cook for your kids!”
But in answer tot he question, he added: “Pasta probably I like to make the most, like Spaghetti. But also just like, a roast dinner.”
Van Gerwen has been following his split with Govers last year.
