The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the appointment of its new Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, marking him as the 30th police chief to oversee the command.

Chuso takes over from CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, who has been reassigned to the Police Staff College in Jos as Deputy Commandant.

In a statement released on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command highlighted that Chuso brings a wealth of experience in operational policing, administration, and law enforcement leadership.

The statement indicated that the new Commissioner “calls for the ongoing support and cooperation of all stakeholders to collectively address and eliminate all forms of criminality in the state.”

Chuso, originally from Sokoto South LGA in Sokoto State, possesses a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force in June 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police after training at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State.

He has held several key positions, including Deputy Commandant of the Police Staff College in Jos, Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing Operations in Kano State, DCP of the Criminal Investigation Department in Kano, and Assistant Commissioner of Police for Operations in Delta State. He was also the inaugural Area Commander in Argungu, Kebbi State.

His extensive experience includes roles as Divisional Police Officer in various locations throughout Sokoto and Kebbi States, along with positions at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (Interpol) in Abuja.

He has participated in numerous professional courses both domestically and internationally, including Tactical Leadership and Combat Training, Higher Military Strategy, and a Human Rights Protection Course at Texas Southern University in Houston.

The Command emphasized that CP Chuso is “dedicated to improving the safety of lives and property, maintaining peace and harmony, and enhancing rapid response capabilities across Nasarawa State.”

He also encouraged traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organizations, and residents to provide timely and reliable information to the Police to aid in crime prevention efforts. CP Chuso is married and has children.
