A POPULAR TV app will be pulled from a host of tech devices, with the shutdown anticipated to impact millions.

Sky boxes, iPhones, and iPads will all be included in this change, which is expected to take place in the next few weeks.

The app will be removed from a batch of older devices, including its original boxes and sticks, in two separate cut-off periods this summer.

, the consumer electronics brand that supplied the NOW TV devices, is ending its support for older devices, leaving customers with no choice but to upgrade.

These Sky boxes stopped being made in 2021, switching its focus to the NOW digital app – however, the boxes that remain plugged in still continue to work in people’s households.

Devices included in the NOW switch-off are the Smart Box (model 4500SK), the Roku Streaming Stick (model 3500X), and a number of Roku model boxes (2700X, 2710X, and 2720).

After August 3, these boxes and sticks will not be compatible with the NOW app, and customers will have to upgrade to a newer device.

A number of hardware devices will not be impacted by the change, such as The NOW TV Black Box (4200SK), The NOW TV Smart Box with 4K and Voice Search, and The NOW Smart Stick.

Both the 4500SK and 4200SK Black Box models look very similar, apart from the 4200SK being slightly chunkier.

As a result, users have been urged to check the model number on the underside of the box to see if their model is impacted.

The NOW TV app will also no longer be supported on 15 software, with the app set to stop working altogether from mid-July.

For many, this can be amended with a simple fix by updating both and iPads to software that is newer than iOS 15.

However, a handful of models cannot support these upgrades, meaning there is no software fix that supports the new app, purely because the phones are simply too old.

This includes the 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, and the iPhone SE (first generation from 2016).

There is no straightforward fix for these devices, however, NOW TV can be easily watched on any web browser or more modern iPhones and iPads.

These changes will come to NOW boxes on August 3, with iPhone and changes anticipated from mid-July.
