Maya Jama and Ruben Dias Split: Friends Reveal the Truth Behind Their Relationship Crossroads

THE REASON for Maya Jama and Ruben Dias’ sudden split after 18 months of dating can now be revealed.

The showbiz couple called time on their romance three weeks ago before Maya flew to Inverness to film The Celebrity Traitors.

Insiders have told how the Love Island host and Manchester City ace took the mutual decision their .

Sources close to the couple said: “Maya and Ruben had a wonderful time together and there’s still a lot of love and respect between them.

“But with both of their careers going into overdrive over the summer, they realised the relationship had run its course and it was better to separate.

“Maya is heading into an intense filming schedule and Reuben’s focus is fully on the World Cup, so they’ve decided to part ways.”

and have both removed all photos together from their social media accounts, including loved-up snaps of .

They first met at the MTV European Music Awards in November 2024 and were first spotted together dining in Ibiza on New Year’s Eve.

Since then the couple went from strength-to-strength and moved into a luxury mansion in Cheshire together just before Christmas last year.

Despite the wipe out, sources insist the split is amicable.

They said: “There’s no bad blood at all between them. They’re still incredibly fond of one another, but with months apart ahead and huge work commitments coming up, they both felt it was the right time to step back from the relationship.

“Friends around them could see how much they cared about each other.

“But with Maya’s work schedule and Ruben’s football commitments ramping up, the relationship naturally reached a crossroads.

“The split has been very mature and mutual. They’re both young, ambitious and entering huge phases in their respective careers.

“They had a brilliant connection and a lot of fun together, but sometimes relationships run their course. With both of them facing career-defining months ahead, they decided it was better to end things now.”

Ruben has been chosen for Portugal’s World Cup squad and will line up for their first match on June 17.

Maya’s Instagram edits had gone undetected until now as she’d removed specific photos from within photo dumps.

A post on July 19 previously included a snap of as they leaned in to share a kiss over a romantic dinner.

But the snap has now been removed from the carousel, with only her picturesque snaps and bikini pictures remaining.

In December Maya’s once included a tender, bedtime kiss believed to have been from a trip to Paris.

But just like the Ibiza snaps, Maya has now removed all traces of Ruben from the December 25 upload.

The Love Island host also scrubbed him from a photo dump on March 30 after she visited his home in Portugal.

Alongside pictures of her in a green bikini was also a smitten snap where she planted a sweet kiss on his cheek.

That snap is now gone.

From the Italy trip in April, she’s removed a photo which was taken from behind as they strolled through the hallways of the Vatican holding hands.

Two dumps are marked “edited two weeks ago”.

Ruben has also axed her from his feed.

He shared two snaps of her in a May 2025 upload from a loved-up trip to the Amalfi Coast in Italy but he has since pulled these.

Maya previously dated rapper whilst Ruben saw Portuguese singer April Ivy from 2018 to 2021. He was also briefly linked to Love Islander Arabella Chi for a few months between late 2023 and early 2024.

After meeting at the glitzy awards bash in 2024, where Maya was wearing Liz Hurley’s legendary safety pin Versace dress, the couple had been inseparable.

They went public at a Baller League game in April when they kissed on the sidelines, but didn’t make it Instagram official until May 2025.

Maya has kept their relationship as private as possible, but did disclose she was learning Portuguese.

In the past she told Cosmopolitan: “”I’m not naive to the fact that when you are a woman in the industry, most of the things that people want to talk about are your relationships.”

In August last year Ruben spoke about trying to keep their relationship grounded.

He said: “I think in a way, maybe she would like to avoid certain kinds of situations just to be more comfortable, also being a woman.

“But being together, I just push it to be normal and we try to be as normal as we can… You don’t make it about [the spotlight]. You make it about everything else and then that’s an extra you have to deal with.”
