The Pentagon confirmed the bombshell exit, saying: “Randy George will be retiring from his position as chief of staff of the army effective immediately.”

George only took the role in September 2023 when appointed by former president Joe Biden.

He was expected to stay until at least the summer, making his sudden departure all the more dramatic.

Sources say Hegseth demanded his resignation as the US gears up for a potential ground war with Iran, with 50,000 American troops already deployed across the Middle East.
