President Bola Tinubu has called former President Olusegun Obasanjo a “towering influence” who will continue to make an impact on Nigeria, Africa, and the rest of the world. Tinubu made the comment while congratulating Obasanjo on his 89th birthday.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president expressed happiness on the 89th birthday of the former president and respected elder statesman, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
He shared in the joy of the former leader, whose impact on the country, Africa, and beyond has been very significant.
Tinubu highlighted the bravery and sacrifices of the elder statesman, noting that he “served the nation as military Head of State from 1976 to 1979, and then handed over power to a civilian president in 1979. Later, he became the first civilian president in the Fourth Republic, from 1999 to 2007.”
Tinubu also recognized the important experiences of the former leader, including “leading troops to protect Nigeria’s unity during the war, spending time in prison for speaking out against unfair rule, and always working for Africa’s political and economic goals.”
As Obasanjo celebrates his 89th birthday, the president praised “the passion and knowledge he has contributed to Nigeria’s growth through his writings and ongoing involvement, showing a strong love for the country and its development.”
Tinubu also prayed for “many more years of good health, strength, and wisdom for the former president as he continues to help the nation and the world.”
