TOTTENHAM legend Darren Anderton advised manager Roberto De Zerbi he needs to make about six big signings to avoid another catastrophic season and have any hope of a top-four finish.

Spurs endured a disastrous campaign that saw them just missing out on a shocking relegation to the Championship in the final Premier League match of the season where they beat Everton 1-0 .

The North Londoners finished 17th in the table with only two points above the drop zone after a dismal run of 17 losses and 10 wins in all of their 38 Prem matches.

And Anderton, 54, warned the club, where he amassed a total of 49 goals and 73 assists in 356 appearances between 1992 and 2004, that they need major reinforcement to return to prominence.

The former midfielder is adamant De Zerbi will need another six key players that will follow and Marcos Senesi, who arrived as free agents after their exit from Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively.

The ex- international name dropped Manchester City ace Savinho as an interesting prospect and insists another central midfielder is in order.

But he added the likes of and Dejan Kulusevski would inject some much-needed firepower that was missing last season – the majority of which they both spent on the injured list.

Anderton told SunSport, on behalf of Casino.net , when asked how many summer signings Tottenham need to return to the Champions League: “I think five or six. There’s a lot of deadwood in the squad.

“Obviously Kudus missed a large chunk of last season, and hopefully he’ll come back like a new signing because he started well.

“I was a little surprised when I was there that the crowd seemed frustrated with him. He kept checking back and recycling possession, but that’s what modern wingers tend to do now. Personally, I hate it as well, so I understand the frustration.

“I’d love to see get fit and back playing. They’ve also been linked with Savinho, who I think is a really quality player, and that’s the kind of signing Tottenham fans want to see.

“I also think they need another central midfielder, wherever that comes from. Overall, the squad needs a lot of work, but I do think can make it happen.”

Anderton also warned will have to dig deep into their coffers as the signings they require could cost them a whopping total of £250million in the current economy.

But the former Portsmouth ace suggested players who haven’t lived up to expectations, such as Yves Bissouma and Richarlison, could command a hefty fee and help raise funds for an expensive transfer window.

The Southampton native added that he is hopeful players like Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke and Archie Gray will step up this coming season.

Anderton added: “Tottenham need a £250m summer. But they have shown there are deals to be had too.

“We’ve just got Senesi, who’s worth £70-80m, for next to nothing. I like Robertson as well.

“I’ve said it openly before. The current players aren’t good enough, and that’s true of the majority of the squad. It needs a major rebuild.

“We’ve got Senesi and Micky van de Ven, who I think are brilliant. I love Pedro Porro, although after this he might be difficult to keep hold of.

“Get Kudus back fit, build around Archie Gray, but beyond that we still need a lot. We need a goalscorer. If Solanke comes back and has a great season, fantastic, but can you rely on that? I wouldn’t guarantee it.

“Bissouma probably has to go, in my opinion, and there are a few others as well. I don’t think Richarlison is going to score 20 goals in a season.

“If Tottenham want to get back into the , they need significant investment.”
