Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Thursday said President Bola Tinubu will be Nigeria’s sole presidential candidate in 2027.
Akpabio said Tinubu has done well for Nigeria since assuming office as President in 2023.
The Senate President spoke at the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit in Abuja.
He insisted that all political parties have been reduced to shreds, leaving only the APC standing.
According to Akpabio: “I want to move that not only would President Tinubu be the sole candidate for the presidency in 2027, but he would also be the sole candidate for the whole Nigerian population.
“Because all other political parties have been turned into shreds. Nigerians are saying that because you have done a difficult job well, it’s time for us to reward you by sending you back to the presidency.”;;
Earlier, the Progressive Governors’ Forum had endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
The endorsement was disclosed by the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma.
Uzodimma also acknowledged the endorsement of Tinubu by the Northern APC governors.
According to Uzodimma: “We acknowledge the resolution of these governors that the President should be used and adopted as our flag bearer for the 2027 presidential election for a second term.
“That the governors produced by the APC are hereby charged to take responsibility to market all federal government policies, occupy all the political space in their domains, and win all elections in their states come 2027.
“It is therefore my humble pleasure, with total humility to the Almighty God, to move that this August assembly adopt and concur with the position of the Progressive Governors that Mr. President carries our flag in 2027, and the governors take the responsibility for delivering this mandate. I so move.”;;
