Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has alleged that the recently held Anambra State governorship election was manipulated.
In an interview on the program Politics Today, aired on Channels Television and monitored by DAILY POST on Monday, Lawal stated, “Structures are employed to manipulate elections; they are used to protect votes at the polling stations.”
His remarks came after the election concluded, where the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was declared the victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
When questioned about his involvement in election rigging for the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party’s successes in the 2015 and 2023 general elections, the former SGF replied: “Some individuals may have engaged in rigging, but my level of involvement in the presidential election was such that our candidate would not condone manipulation.”
“Buhari has consistently advised me in every election, ‘Look, SGF, let’s honor the Nigerian voters. Let’s respect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).’”
