SNOOKER legends paid emotional tribute to John Virgo as the World Championships got underway at the Crucible.

Before introducing the players on day one, presenter Hazel Irvine paid tribute to her former colleague.
She said: “John really was the voice of snooker.”
Irvine then urged fans, both at the Crucible and at home, to stand and applaud in Virgo‘s honour.
Several legends, including the likes of , Dennis Taylor and , joined Irvine in clapping for their old friend.
And Steve Davis even welled up as Virgo was fondly remembered.
The late snooker star was a pro on the circuit between 1976 and 1994.
Virgo won the UK Championship in 1979, and also reached the semi-finals of the World Championships that same year.
He began his broadcasting career in 1985, even further enhancing his legend in the process.
Virgo became renowned as one of the greatest snooker commentators of all time.
Affectionately known as JV, he was even dubbed “the voice of snooker”.
