CCTV footage from inside the shop in West London shows the hooded attacker entering the store and casually greeting the shopkeeper.
However, the situation quickly escalates when he pulls out a green jerrycan and starts pouring a liquid – suspected to be petrol – behind the counter.
The shopkeeper steps back in shock before the thug can be heard threatening, “Give me all the money… hand it over now or I’ll set you on fire.”
The attacker then rushes to the back of the shop, only to return armed with the shovel.
The alleged robber continues to threaten, “I’ll set you on fire” as he retreats from the shop, with the employee using the shovel to keep him at bay.
They vanish from view for 40 seconds, during which screams can be heard in the background.
Shortly after, both men re-enter the shop, and the hooded man makes a bold attempt to steal the cash register.
However, after being confronted with the makeshift weapon, he fails to seize it and drops it behind the counter.
Chaos ensues as the employee chases him around the shop floor, knocking over displays and shelves in the process.
They shout at each other as the struggle continues behind the counter, with the alleged thief trying once more to grab the till.
As he lies on the floor, the shopkeeper lands several strikes with the shovel – yet the thug remains undeterred and manages to escape.
The altercation continues in the middle of the store until another man comes to the shopkeeper's aid.
They successfully fend off the alleged thief, and all three disappear from view, leaving the shop in disarray.
During the nearly three-minute confrontation, the thug could be heard exclaiming, “Get the f*** off me now.”
This shocking incident reportedly occurred around 8:45 AM last Sunday.
In response to the footage shared online, one user on X likened it to a scene from a movie.
They commented, “Honestly, this felt like watching a film! Kudos to the shopkeeper for standing his ground!”
Another remarked, “I can't help but feel satisfaction when he hit him with the shovel... what a complete fool.”
A third joked, “Well, I think we can all agree that went exceptionally well.”
The Sun has reached out to the Metropolitan Police for comment.
Earlier this month, footage surfaced of another shopkeeper bravely fighting off a pair of knife-wielding robbers.
Bethan John, 25, and Jessie Thompson, 31, were forced to flee empty-handed from a shop in Milford Haven, South Wales.
The duo entered the store on Friday, July 11, and began demanding cash.
CCTV from the terrifying incident shows the two women storming into the shop with their hoods up and faces obscured.
Even when the women brandished knives, the shopkeeper stood firm, continuing to defend himself with a plastic crate.
