Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), has submitted his resignation.
This decision comes just 24 hours after Aliko Dangote, the President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, made allegations of corruption against him.
Gbenga Komolafe, who heads the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), has also resigned.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the resignations in a statement on Wednesday, noting that President Bola Tinubu has nominated replacements.
According to Bayo, Tinubu has requested the Senate's approval for the nominations of two new chief executives for the NMDPRA and the NUPRC.
“To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, seeking prompt confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of the NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of the NMDPRA,” he said.
“Both nominees are experienced professionals in the oil and gas sector,” Bayo added.
