Shia LaBeouf's Troubling Hollywood Journey: From Racial Outbursts to FKA Twigs' Disturbing Abuse Allegations

SHIA LaBeouf has found himself in trouble with the law after “terrorising” a city during a five-day booze bender – but he’s certainly no stranger to spending a night or two in a cell.

The 39-year-old’s latest arrest comes after crawl during the Mardi Gras celebrations in the city of New Orleans.

In a that led to his arrest, the actor could be seen launching a sweary tirade against another man before ending up in a shirtless street brawl in the French Quarter.

Footage obtained by TMZ later showed him receiving medical treatment, and police confirmed he faces two charges of battery.

Locals have told of how with his rowdy behaviour during its famous party celebrations.

Multiple venues and bars had already experienced run-ins with the actor and his antics had become the talk of the town, according to news reports.

Doorman Robert Skuse, who works at a cash-only bar in the city, told how Shia turned up with neither cash nor his shirt in an “inebriated” state.

The actor, who has a history of run-ins with the law, had previously spoken out about his struggles with alcoholism and his efforts to stay sober.

These efforts intensified after he was accused by ex girlfriend FKA Twigs of abuse in December 2020, with insiders telling The Sun he was “very dedicated to his sobriety during Covid” and involved with recovery communities in New York.

Yesterday’s arrest also came with the news that the Transformers actor has been separated from his wife for almost a year, according to Page Six.

The report added that Shia had moved to New Orleans in order to be closer to his family after , 32.

The couple share a daughter, Isabel, who was born in 2022, and have long had a rollercoaster on-and-off relationship.

After meeting in 2012, they tied the knot four years later in Las Vegas.

A disturbing 2015 video showed the couple engaged in a fierce argument that ended with Shia driving off and saying he “would have killed her” had he stayed.

They later split in 2018, but things were back on in March 2020 – until last year, it appears.

His recent arrest seemingly hasn’t stopped him from enjoying the famous Mardi Gras celebration either, and he returned to partying immediately after he was released Tuesday morning.

Earlier today, Shia wrote “Free Me” on X and is yet to comment further on what happened.”

It’s not the first time the actor has been arrested in an alcohol-related incident.

He was ordered by a judge to attend an anger management and 12-step programme in 2020 after being charged with battery and theft against a man named Tyler Murphy.

Earlier, in the summer of 2017, he made headlines after going on a in the US state of Georgia.

The incident started when Shia went up to a member of the public and a police officer and asked for a cigarette.

When they refused, he became disorderly and began to use “vulgar language” in front of children.

He then became aggressive towards the officer and ran to a hotel after they tried to place him under arrest.

It was here in the lobby that his outburst was filmed, and for which he later apologised for.

After repeatedly swearing at the officers and accusing them of “arresting [him] for being white”, he was filmed yelling: “I’ve got more millionaire lawyers than you know what to do with.”

He was found guilty of obstruction and sentenced to a year of probation, and ordered to seek therapy.

Describing it as a on Twitter in a public apology, he added: “I am certain that my actions warrant a very sincere apology to the arresting officers, and I am grateful for their restraint.

“I hope I can be forgiven for my mistakes.”

Speaking to Esquire magazine the following March he said: “What went on in Georgia was mortifying,” adding it was a mixture of “white privilege and desperation and disaster”.

He received a year’s probation and was ordered to seek treatment for substance abuse.

Earlier that year, Shia had been arrested after getting in a scuffle at his anti-Trump art installation in New York City – though the charges were dropped.

New York was also where, in 2014, he was arrested at a performance of Cabaret on Broadway.

The star had interrupted a performance and was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct and one count of trespassing, allegedly for the use of obscene language towards the actors and smoking in the theatre.

It was reported that Shia was led out of the musical in handcuffs after refusing requests from security to leave.

This incident prompted an apology on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as he told the hold he had been going through an “existential crisis” that led to some “hiccups, some judgement errors”.

This same year, his erratic behaviour once again made the news when he wore a paper bag over his head with the words “I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE” on a red carpet.

The controversies around Shia have also extended to his personal relationships – and in particular his relationship with the British musician .

Shia and LaBeouf met on the set of the movie Honey Boy in 2018 and briefly dated until 2019.

After their tumultuous relationship came to an end, she later accused him of serious abuse in a December 2020 lawsuit.

She stated she had been subject to “relentless abuse” during their relationship, and “mental and verbal harassment” that became “physical violence”.

The allegations included that he had woken her in the middle of the night “strangling” her and that he had thrown her against a car during an argument.

The lawsuit also claimed the actor had knowingly given her a sexually transmitted disease and had forced her to sleep naked while he kept a loaded firearm by their bed.

In a 2021 interview with Louis Theroux, FKA Twigs said the relationship had .

A former girlfriend of the actor, stylist Karolyn Pho, also described how he allegedly pinned her to a bed while drunk and head-butted her until she bled.

Shia denied many of the allegations, but also told the New York Times: “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalisations.

“I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years,” he continued.

“I have a history of hurting the people closest to me.

“I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt.”

After the lawsuit dragged on for five years, FKA Twigs and Shia reached a settlement last July, though the details remained private.

A joint statement from their lawyers said: “Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court.

“We wish each other personal happiness, professional success, and peace in the future.”

Shia’s run-ins with the law also date back even further – to 1996.

An essay he published in 2015 called “Error Breeds Sense” told how aged just nine, he spent six hours in jail after he stole a pair of Nike sneakers from a shop in California.

Two years after this incident, he wound up arrested again for stealing a Gameboy.

Nearly ten years later, in 2007, he spent two days in jail after attempting to stab a neighbour, later writing that “jail is not the move…it sucks ass”.

But he would end up in a cell later that same year, this time for refusing to leave a pharmacy in Chicago while in the city to celebrate his 21st birthday.

Recounting the story to David Letterman, he said he was in the store to buy some cigarettes but got distracted buying pimple cream, at which point a security guard started laughing at him.

After leaving the store, he realised he’d forgotten the cigarettes and so headed back in – but not before changing his clothes in case the security guard had already seen him.

“My logic was off, to say the least,” he said, adding he was “on ‘the sauce’”.

He returned, but unsurprisingly the change of clothes only led to a comment from the guard and a bit of back and forth between the pair.

He forgot the cigarettes for a second time, instead leaving with some gummy bears – and when he went back things got heated, and he was arrested after repeatedly refusing to leave the store.

The next year would see him arrested again, this time for a DUI, after getting involved in a crash that flipped his car – though charges would be dropped.

Shia ended up requiring surgery on his hand after the incident in West Hollywood, but the authorities determined it was the other driver at fault.

Even nearly two decades later, it appears the star is still struggling to escape the troubling spiral of scandal that has cast a shadow over his glittering Hollywood career.
