Shehu Sani to Kemi Badenoch: Face your adopted UK, leave Nigeria alone

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has criticized British Conservative politician, Kemi Badenoch, over her remarks about Nigeria’s citizenship laws, saying she should face her adopted country and stop meddling in Nigeria’s affairs.

Badenoch, who is of Nigerian descent, had during an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, claimed that she is unable to pass Nigerian citizenship to her children because she is a woman.

The UK politician, born in London to Nigerian parents, said it is much easier for Nigerians to become British citizens than it is for foreigners to acquire Nigerian citizenship.

“It’s virtually impossible, for example, to get Nigerian citizenship. I have that citizenship by virtue of my parents, I can’t give it to my children because I’m a woman,” Badenoch said during the interview.

“Yet loads of Nigerians come to the UK and stay for a relatively free period of time, acquire British citizenship. We need to stop being naive,” she added.

Shehu Sani took to his official X account on Monday to express displeasure over Badenoch’s comments.

He questioned why she would want Nigerian citizenship for her children when she had clearly distanced herself from the country and rejected it in her political and public conduct.

“Why should Kemi Badenoch be bothered about getting a Nigerian citizenship for her offspring from a country she rebuked and rejected?” Sani asked.

“She should just enjoy her adopted home and leave us alone in our father’s home,” he added
