Abia State Governor Alex Otti has emphasized that his administration prioritizes the safety of Abia's citizens, irrespective of the substantial financial investment required.
Governor Otti expressed this sentiment on Thursday during a familiarization visit from the newly appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Oluremi Fadairo.
He acknowledged that maintaining security demands considerable financial resources, but he emphasized that any investment in an environment lacking safety for lives and property is destined to fail.
“We understand that security entails significant costs, which is why we are committed to ensuring the safety of our people.
“If individuals cannot rest peacefully, regardless of the investments made, no one will engage with it,” Governor Otti remarked.
The governor assured the GOC of the full cooperation and support of the state government and encouraged him to visit all locations and battalions throughout the state.
Earlier, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, GOC of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of the South-East Joint Task Force, “Operation Udoka,” assured Governor Otti that, having served in the East as a young officer, he would leverage his extensive experience to address the issues of insecurity and criminality in Abia State and the wider South-East region.
“I served here as a young officer, and I am familiar with the nuances of this area. Therefore, my presence here is a significant advantage for the operation,” Fadairo stated.
While seeking the support of the Abia State Government and its citizens, Major General Fadairo expressed gratitude to the governor for his ongoing backing of security agencies in the state.
