The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has urged the state government to take prompt action regarding security issues raised during the plenary session. He also called for the strict enforcement of existing laws and the implementation of previous resolutions made by the Assembly to protect the residents and citizens of the state.

He additionally appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun for the urgent implementation of security measures discussed at the South-West Governors’ Meeting in Ibadan, as well as those agreed upon during the Southern Governors’ Forum meeting held in Iperu on November 26.

This appeal followed a report by Adegoke Adeyanju, a member representing Yewa North I State Constituency, who highlighted security issues in parts of Ogun West due to the influx of herders and ongoing open grazing activities in his constituency, particularly in Oja Odan, Ilaro, and surrounding communities. The issue was raised during Thursday’s plenary at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Adeyanju emphasized the necessity for a proactive response to the emerging security threats posed by the influx of foreign herders into border communities within the senatorial district.

The Speaker also instructed the Chairman of the House Committee on Lands and Housing, Damilola Kayode Soneye, to organize a meeting with the Surveyor-General and other relevant stakeholders to address allegations of land appropriation by military personnel in Ijebu North-East, as reported by Oluseun Adesanya, a member representing the constituency.

Adesanya had previously expressed concerns over escalating tensions in Itele, reportedly caused by the Nigerian Army, which was said to have enclosed between 20 and 25 villages. He cautioned that this situation had led to fears of displacement, widespread anxiety, and the potential for conflict among the residents.
