Producers are assembling a star-studded cast and aim to premiere the series, inspired by Sue Townsend’s inaugural book, late next year.

The series debuted in 1985, followed by its sequel, The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole, in 1987.
A TV insider revealed: “The BBC is looking to cast a similarly renowned ensemble to portray the characters in this new adaptation, recognizing how iconic the show was during its initial run.
“They intend to maintain the show’s comedic essence and remain true to Townsend’s original vision, especially as a whole generation of viewers grew up watching this program and reading the book.
“Filming is expected to commence early next year, with the goal of airing it potentially by the end of 2026 — and given the high anticipation, it is likely to secure a prime time slot.
“The fact that it’s already slated for BBC One highlights the significance they place on this reboot.
“There is also tremendous potential for sequels, as there are eight books in the Adrian Mole series available for adaptation.”
Although the program has not yet been fully commissioned, it is currently in an advanced stage, with lead actors being considered.
The show follows teenager Adrian as he documents his adolescent challenges in a diary he writes daily in the suburban home he shares with his parents.
He harbors feelings for fellow schoolgirl Pandora Braithwaite, the most popular girl in their class, and eventually, they enter into a relationship.
A second series, The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole, based on Townsend’s second book in the series, aired in 1987, with Lulu taking over the role of his mother from Walters.
