MORE than 1,000 schoolkids were sent home every day in a year for attacking classmates or teachers, figures show.

The shocking number includes children as young as three ordered to leave their early years units.

Latest statistics log some 205,000 pupils suspended or expelled due to violence in the year up to July 2024.

With around 190 in a year, this averages out at 1,078 a day — a 45 per cent rise in just two years.

The total includes 141,830 cases where children were suspended for assaulting another pupil, plus 2,342 cases where they were .

There were also 62,897 ­incidents where children were suspended after attacking a teacher, plus 1,860 expulsions.

Nursery classes saw 71 cases of infants being suspended for attacking another child and 106 where they were sent home for lashing out at a teacher.

In Reception — the first year of infant school — attacks on teachers led to 4,529 suspensions and 51 expulsions.

A further 2,367 Reception Year children were suspended for assaulting another pupil, with 22 expelled.

Year 8, which children start aged 12, saw the most problems with violence.

There were 27,000 suspensions for assaults on pupils and 5,000 for attacks on teachers.

Last year figures emerged after a over the stabbing of , 15, at a school in .

Christopher McGovern, of the Campaign for Real Education, said: “Teachers need to be given specialist training in how to restrain violent pupils.

“Alarm buzzers to summon help would be a step in the right direction.”
