The Ogun State government has resolved to relocate illegal motor parks and end street trading at Sango Tollgate, as part of efforts to end the incessant road accidents at the state’s border with Lagos.

Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya stated this on Friday, when he led officials from the Ministry, the State Waste Management Authority, OGWAMA, and the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government on a visit to the Sango Tollgate area to find a lasting solution to the incessant accident at the border point.

Oresanya stated that to prevent the interstate buses and street traders from going back to the spot, they will l construct barricades on both sides of the Tollgate area.

The commissioner added that a total clean-up would begin in the area, and environmental marshals would be on ground to ensure compliance.

He said, “I have the directive of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who is worried and concerned about the incessant loss of lives to investigate and find a lasting solution to the unfortunate and avoidable accidents at this Tollgate.

“After careful review of the situation on ground, with other government officials and other stakeholders, the State government has decided to relocate the illegal motor park and eradicate street trading that has been in existence at the Tollgate for twenty five years to a more recognised and better organised places far away from the area”

“To prevent the interstate buses and street traders from going back to the spot, the state government in conjunction with the local government will construct barricades on both sides of the Tollgate area while there will be a total clean-up of the area by officials of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority while Ado-Odo Ota Local Government officials in collaboration with Environmental Marshals from the Ministry of Environment will ensure compliance with the new order.

DAILY POST reported that, last Friday, no fewer than three persons were killed, while six others suffered varying degrees of injuries in a road accident that occurred at Sango-Ota tollgate end, along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

This accident followed a similar occurrence last month, where a trailer tanker reportedly failed brakes, resulting in the deaths of six men and one woman.
