SKINCARE from salmon sperm? The internet has gone wild for it as it contains DNA fragment PDRN, which is said to have many skincare benefits.
Two brands I trust launched products this month with a vegan version. I put them to the test, alongside a bargain alternative.
BUDGET
The Boots hydrating PDRN serum leaves skin feeling hydrated Credit: Unknown
Boots hydrating PDRN serum, £8 for 30ml: While I truly believe you don’t have to spend loads to get great products, I was dubious over whether this would work given the bargain price tag.
But my doubts were quickly put to bed.
It immediately left my skin feeling hydrated, and overall made it look healthier, with a watery consistency that sits well under the other products in my routine.
As well as PDRN, it contains niacinamide, glycerin, hyaluronic acid and panthenol, which make it great for calming and nourishing dry, sensitive skin.
MID-RANGE
The INKEY Lab PDRN serum has no greasy residue to contend with under make-up
INKEY Lab PDRN serum, £18 for 30ml, boots.com : I struggle with sleep, and the last week has been especially bad – my Oura ring tells me I’ve averaged four hours 32 minutes a night.
Yet not once has anyone said I look tired, and I’m crediting this particular overnight treatment.
I noticed my skin looked better after the first use, which is rare.
It makes my skin look plump and gives it a glass-skin like glow come morning.
And this remains even after I’ve washed my face.
And because you apply it at night, there’s no greasy residue to contend with under .
LUXURY
The Medik8 Exo-PDRN Prismatic+ sinks in quickly
Medik8 Exo-PDRN Prismatic+, £79 for 30ml, spacenk.com /uk: Medik8 isn’t a brand that jumps on the bandwagon.
The firm is incredibly scientific, and rigorously tests its products, so as soon as this launch landed in my inbox I paid attention.
Speaking of testing, they’ve found that in just seven days you can expect improved luminosity, barrier function, firmness and tone.
And within two weeks, wrinkles are reduced and skin looks fuller.
The clear, lightweight gel sinks in quickly and after a week of use, my skin feels softer and more balanced, so I can’t wait to see the difference once I finish the bottle.
