Tragic Fall: Russian Paratrooper Dies in Chilling Accident During Moscow Air Show

THIS is the terrifying moment a Russian paratrooper plunges to his death after he jumped from a plane and his parachute failed to open.

The 41-year-old veteran leapt from the plane flying at nearly 2000ft (600m) above the ground during a display to celebrate Airborne Forces Day, Russian media reported.

Horrifying footage captures the elite soldier’s parachute failing to inflate and the man twisting desperately in the air as he falls.

The paratrooper attempted to activate his reserve parachute but the distance to the ground was too short for it to expand in time to save his life, according to Visegrád 24.

The tragedy unfolded near Moscow on Sunday, when observes a military holiday honouring the nation’s paratroopers.

Airborne Forces Day is celebrated on August 2 in Russia and commemorates the role of paratroopers during military operations.

The celebration comes as Vladimir Putin continues his brutal invasion of .

As the war grinds on, both sides have resorted to drone attacks as a way to gain the upper hand and grind down the other side’s resources.

This includes Ukraine launching drone attacks on a holiday spot on the Black Sea near one of Putin’s palaces, as well as a fatal bombing in Moscow on the weekend.

In the face of recent military blows, the Russian dictator would have sought to use Airborne Forces Day as an opportunity to project strength.

He said in a post on the Kremlin’s website that airborne divisions had “always been filled with men of exceptional fortitude, indomitable spirit, unwavering resolve, a profound sense of comradeship, and mutual support”.

He said: “You are rightfully proud of the founders of the Airborne Forces, the immortal deeds and outstanding achievements of those who came before you, and you honour your veterans as role models.

“I would like to particularly note the skillful and resolute actions of the paratroopers who are defending Russia in the special military operation zone, shoulder to shoulder with their brothers in arms, displaying heroism and courage in the most critical sectors of the front.”
