RUSSELL MARTIN is heading for League One’s latest Leicester City on a three-year deal.

The final touches were agreed on Saturday, according to the Telegraph, with an announcement expected in the next 48 hours.

The former Southampton boss began the 2025/26 season with but only lasted 17 games before the results handed him a pink slip.

Similarly, Leicester have not had it easy since their historic Premier League 2015/16 campaign.

Martin – who made 278 appearances for Norwich – will be tasked with regathering the Foxes after their third demotion in four seasons.

Offers from the UK and abroad were considered by the 40-year-old, who took a leave of absence since exiting Ibrox in October 2025.

Club owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha and newly appointed sporting director James McCarron are said to be big fans of the former international and his style of play.

They were keeping their fingers crossed for Martin’s signature last summer – but have been willing to wait in the wings for him.

Leicester were doomed to the drop with two games to spare following a 2-2 draw with newly-promoted .

It comes just short of a decade after they defied the 5,000/1 chances to lift the Premier League title under Claudio Ranieri.

Following their confirmed relegation, Srivaddhanaprabha’s statement pointed to the future of the Midlands club.

He said: “Our focus now is on what comes next. We will take the necessary decisions to move the Club forward, working together to rebuild, improve, and restore the standards expected of .

“Our objective is clear – to respond strongly and compete to move this Club forward again.”

And Martin will be a huge part of that, bringing a wealth of experience to the King Power.

Hanging up his boots in 2019, the Brighton-born coach dived headfirst into the managing world with MK Dons at the very start of the .

Martin then left the Dons in the dust two days before the start of the season to lead Swansea into the 2021/22 season.

And eventually, when he moved to Southampton, he secured promotion through the play-offs at the first time of asking.

But after a coveted G51 move, Martin became the shortest-serving manager in Rangers’ history – boasting a 123-day stint.
