Paul Ibe, a media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Friday expressed concerns that President Bola Tinubu may be using state resources for his private benefit.

Ibe, who was reacting to Tinubu’s stopover in Los Angeles in the United States, said the President can’t be running Nigeria’s presidential aircraft like “kabukabu”.

Tinubu, who departed Yokohama in Japan on Thursday night, is expected to stopover in Los Angeles before continuing his journey to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil.

Tinubu began his two-nation visit on August 15, when he departed Abuja. He and his entourage stopped over in Dubai, UAE, and arrived in Yokohama early in the morning on August 18.

The President had attended the opening ceremony and plenary of the ninth Tokyo International Conference for African Development, TICAD9, on August 20.

He also held some bilateral meetings, culminating in the interactive session with diaspora Nigerians on Thursday night.

Reacting, Ibe wondered how the stopover in Los Angeles can be explained because it’s not a state visit.

Posting on X, Ibe wrote: “I am concerned President Bola Tinubu Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be using state resources to benefit his private interest. Or how else can the stopover in Los Angeles, United States be explained.

“It is certainly not an official visit. In this era of dwindling revenue and loans dependent governance, the President cannot be running our presidential aircraft like a kabukabu to his benefit and that of his family and cronies.”
