The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, asserted that he and his supporters possess the political influence and framework necessary to secure victory for any candidate of their choosing in upcoming elections.

Wike emphasized that he and his political base were instrumental in supporting President Bola Tinubu, which contributed to his success in Rivers State during the 2023 general elections.

The minister made these comments on Monday during gatherings with his supporters and political allies in the Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

He noted that in addition to the President’s triumph, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) successfully won all elective positions at both the national and state assemblies, along with the governorship election in the state.

The FCT Minister indicated that these electoral achievements serve as clear evidence of his and his supporters’ ability to mobilize and secure victories at the polls.

Regarding politics in Rivers State, Wike encouraged his supporters in Omuma LGA to “listen to Kelechi,” adding, “whatever he advises you, that is where I stand.”

In response, Kelechi Nwogu, the representative for Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, stated that if Governor Siminalayi Fubara runs for a second term, the people of Omuma will not support him.

Nwogu advised Wike to rest easy concerning the 2027 general elections, asserting, “if the incumbent governor is running, Omuma will not back him.”

He further stated, “The worst person to follow in life is an ungrateful individual. When someone claims to be 001, let me clarify, I can never be 001 ahead of my superior. If offered that position, I would decline.”

Nwogu continued, “It is regrettable that a son aspires to surpass his father due to power.”

He pointed out that the issue is not about defection but rather questioned the political capability and electoral value of individuals who are suddenly switching to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and expressing support for President Tinubu.
He assured Wike and President Tinubu that the people of Omuma are steadfastly behind them.

Wike also visited the Etche Local Government Area, where he spoke to his supporters, stressing that political activities will officially commence in January.
