Less than two weeks after the leadership of the Labour Party (LP) in Ogun State approached the Chief Promoter of the Alternative Movement, Otunba Segun Showunmi, with a promise of the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections, leaders of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) visited him on Monday with a similar proposal.
The Ogun State chairperson of the ADP, Yeye Olufunke Olarenwaju, made this announcement as she led party leaders to Showunmi’s residence at Ibara Housing Estate in Abeokuta on Monday.
She stated that the visit was part of efforts to invite Showunmi to join the party in preparation for the 2027 governorship election.
Describing Showunmi as a reputable politician and grassroots mobilizer, Olarenwaju emphasized that he possesses the capability to represent the party in the upcoming election.
“We want him to come and run for the next governorship election under the ADP. He is a reputable politician and a grassroots mobilizer. We believe he is deserving of the governorship position in Ogun State, which is why we have come to invite him to contest on the ADP platform,” she stated.
Showunmi, a former governorship aspirant for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed gratitude for the invitation but mentioned that he would consult widely before making a decision.
In response to questions from journalists about which party he would choose, Showunmi indicated that he would evaluate which party is the most stable and organized for his candidacy in the next election.
He remarked, “What I foresee is that at some point, we will assess which party is the most stable, the most acceptable, and the most organized. Then we will proceed to run.”
