The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced on Friday that the FCT Administration (FCTA) is taking all necessary measures to safeguard the residents of the capital city.
Wike made this statement in response to concerns regarding the Rivers Park Estate and the FCT Administration.
During his monthly press briefing in Abuja, the minister asserted that he will not yield to “blackmail.”
Wike also promised that the FCTA, under his guidance, is “undergoing transformation and the community recognizes our efforts.”
According to Wike: “The situation at Rivers Park Estate in Lugbe reflects the FCT's commitment to protecting its residents.
“One of the challenges we faced in the past was the allocation of land to individuals. What was the agreement?
“Someone was granted land for parks and gardens for the last 15 years, and then there’s an application for conversion to comprehensive development.
“We responded, ‘no, this is not what we anticipated. We cannot permit that.’
“Thus, the ministry decided that we must regulate this. No more land will be allocated to any department.
“You’ve heard about River Park; there is no affiliation between the FCT and River Park. No affiliation whatsoever.
“People are simply resorting to blackmail. Whenever we strive to do the right thing, blackmail emerges. We will not be swayed by such tactics.”
