The Forum of Retired Oil Workers has called on the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to maintain its reform momentum and continue enhancing accountability within the oil and gas sector.

In a statement signed by its president, Richard Jackson, the forum expressed that the Commission’s leadership under Engr. Gbenga Komolafe has established a new standard for transparency, efficiency, and investor confidence in the upstream sector.

The group observed that the consistent increase in rig activity—from just eight in 2021 to 70 currently—and the rise in oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day demonstrate the effectiveness of the Commission’s reform strategies.

It urged the NUPRC to strengthen stakeholder engagement and adhere to global best practices in governance, safety, and transparency, emphasizing that these principles are essential for maintaining the sector’s current growth trajectory.

“The Commission must continue to hold operators accountable while building on the successes of ongoing reforms. This is the only way to ensure enduring stability and profitability in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry,” Jackson stated.

He further noted that under Komolafe’s leadership, the NUPRC has shown that responsible regulation and reform-oriented leadership can reposition Nigeria as a reliable destination for global energy investment.
