TORRENTIAL rain has wreaked havoc across Brit holiday hotspots in Spain – sparking deadly floods and urgent warnings over “significant danger”.

At least one man has died after being “swept away by water” amid the horror deluge which has sunk the nation just weeks after its hottest summer ever.

The victim was reportedly killed in a stream in Olivella, just 25 miles west of , when they trired to escape a vehicle as it was washed away.

Spain is set to endure more flooding in the coming days as authorities warn that popular holiday destinations Benidorm, Ibiza, and Magaluf will be hit.

Jaw-dropping footage showed biblical levels of rain pummelling Brit holiday hotspots – as cars were submerged and roads were turned into rivers.

Emergency services were seen in various clips trying to rescue bystanders caught up in the deadly thunderstorms.

Many of Spain‘s Balearic Islands have been placed under an orange warning.

On Wednesday, terrifying waves ripped through and Valencia.

A red warning for flash floods was briefly implemented in Barcelona during the heavy rain.

Spain’s national agency said they have “rarely seen such large rainfall accumulations in 30 minutes”.

They also put out yellow and orange warnings for severe rain and floods on Thursday throughout the southeast of the Iberian peninsula.

These will last throughout Thursday and in some cases Friday.

Local authorities are warning of “significant danger” for Brit holiday hotspots like the Balearic Islands and Alicante – with the latter recording four inches of rain in just one hour yesterday.

Aemet said on Wednesday morning residents and tourists should expect” very heavy showers and storms in the eastern mainland and Balearic Islands”.

They added: “The intensity and persistence of the rains may cause local flooding and flash floods.

“Significant danger in Catalonia, south of Aragon, Valencian Community, and Balearic Islands. Exercise great caution!”

Metro stations in Barcelona were also forced to close, while all tube lines were halted in Valencia.

Those living in Catalonia and Valencia were been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and take care.

Telephone alerts rang out in the streets as residents were warned to take shelter amid the flooding risk.

Streets were also turned into swamps and in Valencia, 12 flights were diverted sparking further travel chaos.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said “very complicated situations” could arise amid the weather carnage.

A first division football match was also axed because of the savage weather.

Levante and Athletic Bilbao had to abandon the fixture – after floodwater started seeping into the player tunnels.

Shocking images showed brutal downpour battering the pitch as fans watched in disbelief.

In Valencia, nearly 500 weather-related reports have been made to emergency services so far this week, reports say.

The horrific weather comes after Spain’s hottest summer on record.

Wildfires erupted throughout the nation as astonishing clips showed the extent of the devastation.
