Spanish football club Barcelona said Monday they had &#8220;ended out of court in an amicable fashion&#8221; the various lawsuits with their former player Neymar.¨
&#8220;As such, a transactional agreement between the club and the player has been signed to end the legal cases that were pending between the two parties: three claims related to labour and a civil case,&#8221; the club said in a statement.
The Brazilian superstar Neymar enjoyed a successful spell at Barca between 2013 and 2017 before joining Paris Saint-Germain for a then world record €222m ($261m).
He joined Barca in 2013 and signed a new five-year contract in 2016, which included a renewal bonus worth 64.4 million euros. Most of the lawsuits concern this bonus.
Barcelona paid €20.75m of this bonus before Neymar left for Paris Sant-Germain but then refused to pay the remaining amount, insisting the terms of his contract had been broken.
A Spanish court in June 2020 ordered Neymar to pay Barcelona €6.8m, arguing that he did not have the right to collect the bonus money since he cut short his contract with the club.

Despite their legal disputes, Barca have made several attempts to re-sign Neymar.
But a fresh bid seems impossible for now, given Barcelona&#8217;s financial problems as a result of the coronavirus pandemic although the deal to settle all outstanding lawsuits is bound to renew speculation of a possible return.
The 29-year-old remains a popular figure amongst the Barca squad where he formed a devastating attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez during his time at Camp Nou.

Memphis Depay was given his first minutes in a Barcelona shirt on Saturday evening, and he scored the third goal in the 3-1 victory over Girona.
The Dutchman spoke after the game about how his 50 or so minutes felt and he thanked his teammates for making the transition easier.
&#8220;It feels amazing to play in this shirt,&#8221; he told Barcelona &#8216;s official media channels.
&#8220;It was tough, the first minutes in the match, but I really enjoyed it. The teammates helped me.&#8221;
Barcelona overcame Girona 3-1 in a pre-season friendly at the Estati Johan Cruyff, with Memphis Depay coming on as a substitute and scoring the final goal from the penalty spot.
It was a game of three penalties, with Gerard Pique and Samu Saiz both scoring first-half spot-kicks on either side of Rey Manaj&#8217;s latest pre-season strike.

Pique had a more enjoyable moment 10 minutes later as he was able to score the opener from the penalty spot, even though his effort was initially saved and then turned in by the unfortunate hand of Juan Carlos.
The goalkeeper had more bad luck just a few minutes later, as a Rey Manaj shot bounced in off the Girona No.1&#8217;s legs.

Lionel Messi is going nowhere after <a href="https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11833/12355747/lionel-messi-barcelona-forward-agrees-contract-extension-with-50-per-cent-pay-cut" target="_blank" rel="noopener" target="_blank">reportedly</a> agreeing a new five-year contract to remain at Barcelona while taking a 50 percent pay cut to assist the club with its ongoing financial crisis.

Messi is currently a free agent following the expiration of his contract on June 30, but the six-time Ballon d&#8217;Or winner and <a href="https://www.flyingeze.com/news/copa-america-messi-argentina-beat-brazil-win-first-trophy-career" target="_blank" rel="noopener" target="_blank">newly crowned Copa America champion</a> is expected to sign his new deal upon returning to Spain later this month.
The new deal will tie Messi to Barcelona until he is 39 years old, at which point he will have spent 26 consecutive years of his life at the club.

The massive wage reduction was, according to many reports, the only feasible way for Barcelona to re-sign Messi as the club must shed close to $250 million in annual wages just to meet financial requirements set forth by La Liga&#8217;s salary rules. The books are so unbalanced that Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia — the club&#8217;s first three summer signings, all as free agents — are yet to be registered to play as doing so at this time would put Barcelona in breach of La Liga&#8217;s financial regulations.
It was previously revealed that Messi&#8217;s last contract paid him $674 million over the four-year term ($168.5 million per year), thus the new deal is expected to pay him close to $85 million per year and just over $420 million should he remain at the club for the duration.

Given Barcelona&#8217;s financial predicament, it&#8217;s difficult to see how Messi and Co., will improve upon last season&#8217;s 3rd-place finish in La Liga (7 points behind champions Atletico Madrid and 5 back of rivals Real Madrid). Without the ability to sign reinforcements — and the likelihood that a number of first-team regulars will have to be moved on just to comply with registration rules, it&#8217;s possible that Barcelona could actually be worse off in 2021-22.

Report: Messi, Barcelona agree new 5-year deal with massive pay cut

Business trip booking platform <a href="https://www.flyingeze.com/category/ target="_blank">TravelPerk</a> has bagged another rival &#8212; picking up UK-based <a href="https://www.flyingeze.com/category/ target="_blank">Click Travel</a>. Terms of the deal are not being disclosed but we&#8217;re told it&#8217;s the third &#8212; and largest &#8212; acquisition for TravelPerk to date.
The Barcelona-based startup has been on a bit of a shopping spree since the pandemic crisis hit Europe last year, picking up risk management startup Albatross in summer 2020 to bolster resilience to COVID-19&#8217;s impacts, before going on to acquire <a href="https://www.flyingeze.com/news/business-trip-platform-travelperk-buys-yc-backed-rival-nextravel" target="_blank">US-based NexTravel</a> in January to expand its presence in the US market.

The latest acquisition deepens TravelPerk&#8217;s UK and European business, adding Click Travel&#8217;s 2,000+ SME clients (which includes the likes of Five Guys, Red Bull and Talk Talk) to its customer base &#8212; which will total just over 5,000 post-acquisition.
The UK company handles some £300M in business travel for its client base, which will bolster TravelPerk&#8217;s revenues going forward. The latter now bills itself as the &#8220;leading&#8221; travel management platform for the SME market globally and the UK as a whole.
“We are a global travel management platform but our core markets are the US and Europe and we expect both markets to be our primary growth areas this year,&#8221; said CEO and co-founder Avi Meir. &#8220;At the current moment, the US is our largest market due to the covid restrictions in the EU &amp; UK.”
“Assuming travel restrictions won’t be imposed again, we expect to grow by 200% in 2022 with strong growth in our core markets in the US &amp; EU,&#8221; he added.
Click Travel, which is based in Birmingham, was founded all the way back in 1999 &#8212; and appears to have raised relatively little venture capital over the years, per <a href="https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/click-travel" target="_blank">Crunchbase</a>. However, in 2018, the veteran player <a href="https://www.clicktravel.com/blog/joining-future-fifty-2018-tech-city-uk/" target="_blank">participated in the government-backed Future Fifty</a> scale-up program &#8212; and also took in a &#8220;<a href="https://www.clicktravel.com/blog/click-travel-receives-multi-million-pound-investment-from-the-bgf/" target="_blank">multi-million pound</a>&#8221; investment from the UK-based Business Growth Fund.
Whether there will be any domestic hang-wringing over a high growth UK business being sold to a European rival remains to be seen.
In a statement on its sale to TravelPerk, CEO James McLean omitted to mention the pandemic&#8217;s impact on the travel sector &#8212; choosing instead to highlight what he couched as the pair&#8217;s shared &#8220;mission&#8221; to reduce the cost and complexity of business travel.
“Those shared objectives, combined with the natural cultural fit between our two companies, means we are incredibly excited to bring our teams together. Combining TravelPerk’s industry-leading knowledge, technology, experience and first class customer support with our own is a powerful proposition and we can’t wait to get started,&#8221; McLean added.
While Click Travel has focused on serving the UK market, TravelPerk has had a global focus from the start.
It has also attracted a large amount of external investment (totalling just under $300M) over its shorter run (founded in 2015).
Back in April, for example, it raised a <a style="background-color: #ffffff; font-size: 1rem; letter-spacing: -0.1px;" href="https://www.flyingeze.com/news/travelperk-raises-160m-in-equity-and-debt-after-a-year-of-derailed-business-trips" target="_blank">$160M Series D round</a>. It had also <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2019/07/18/on-a-growth-tear-work-trip-saas-travelperk-adds-60m-to-its-series-c/" target="_blank">topped up its Series C round in July 2019</a> before the pandemic hit. So TravelPerk hasn&#8217;t been short of funds to ride out the COVID-19 revenue crunch &#8212; and as well as shopping for competitors it has also been able to avoid making any layoffs over the travel crisis. 
Per a press release, capital to fund the Click Travel acquisition was provided by Boston-based investment manager, The Baupost Group.
TravelPerk&#8217;s Meir remains bullish about the near-term prospects for growth in the business travel sector, despite ongoing concerns in Europe and the US about the more infectious &#8216;Delta&#8217; variant of the virus which is contributing to surging rates of COVID-19 in some markets (including the UK) &#8212; claiming it&#8217;s already seeing green shoots of recovery in &#8220;key markets&#8221;.
&#8220;TravelPerk is outgrowing the market pace and is already at above 2019 revenue figures,&#8221; Meir told TechCrunch. “When it comes to the rest of the industry, the recovery of travel is well underway but moving at different speeds in different markets. For instance in the US, according to <a href="https://www.tsa.gov/coronavirus/passenger-throughput" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.tsa.gov/coronavirus/passenger-throughput&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1625565110777000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFcpOdkpHNnOKtACtKxfP4hXfIlog" target="_blank">TSA Checkpoint figures</a>, at the current rate of recovery the US travel market is expected to reach pre-pandemic volume at the end of August 2021.
&#8220;We anticipate the global market may take a little longer but are optimistic we will see close to pre-pandemic levels in 2022.”
“We’re one of the few players in the travel industry that continued scaling and growing since the beginning of the pandemic with a strategy that didn’t involve any layoffs,&#8221; he also told us. “Since March last year, our strategy has been not to sit back but to be aggressive and invest massively in our product offering and in our global reach, so that we are in the best position possible to capitalise when travel makes its full recovery. Today’s news is a major part of that plan.
“We will aim to continue being aggressive in our growth strategy and we are open to more acquisitions if they make strategic sense and are aligned with our vision and culture.”
Per Meir, Click Travel and TravelPerk will initially continue to run as two independent platforms but he confirmed that an &#8220;eventual full integration&#8221; is planned &#8212; with both set to operate under the TravelPerk brand in time.
The startup also says it will retain all Click Travel&#8217;s staff &#8212; denying it has plans to axe any jobs. It also intends to hold onto the company&#8217;s Birmingham base &#8212; having the city as another UK hub for its business (in addition to its existing London office).
“The 150 amazing people working for Click Travel were a big reason why we wanted to acquire the company, and were priced into the deal,&#8221; said Meir. &#8220;We have no plans of redundancies. We rather aim to integrate the entire team into the TravelPerk Group.&#8221;
Asked if TravelPerk might consider expanding its focus to also target the enterprise segment, he noted that it&#8217;s seen interest from larger businesses &#8212; and said he&#8217;s &#8220;open&#8221; to the idea &#8212; but for now Meir said TravelPerk remains fully focused on the SME market: &#8220;where we think there is the biggest need, and the biggest growth potential&#8221;.
&#8220;That’s why this acquisition is so exciting for us; it makes us undoubtedly the leading travel management platform for SMEs globally,&#8221; he added.
<h2>Flexibility and sustainability</h2>
Discussing how the pandemic has changed business travel, Meir highlighted two &#8220;important trends&#8221; he said TravelPerk will continue to invest it: Namely flexibility for bookings; and sustainability so environmental impact can be reduced.
TravelPerk plans to invest more than $100M in two key products in these areas (aka: <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2019/07/24/travelperk-launches-flexible-refunds-to-help-businesses-save-on-cancelled-trips/" target="_blank">FlexiPerk</a> and GreenPerk), per Meir.
&#8220;We’ve noticed on our platform that travellers are booking closer to their departure date: Before the pandemic, trip searches were usually conducted between 7 and 30 days prior to the selected departure date,&#8221; he said, elaborating on the importance of flexibility for the sector. &#8220;Now we are seeing most trip searches are for trips less than 6 days away. Flexibility is therefore one of the most in-demand perks in business travel. Travellers will rely on flexible fares to give them the peace of mind that they won’t lose money if they need to change or cancel a trip on short notice.&#8221;
On sustainability, Meir said businesses are already looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and general environmental impact, while consumers are also wanting to make conscientious decisions to reduce carbon emission &#8212; suggesting that train-based travel is set to gain ground (vs flights) as a result. (That might, ultimately, require some creative retooling of TravelPerk&#8217;s logo &#8212; which prominently features an airplane icon&#8230; )
&#8220;We expect to see significant interest in our carbon offsetting product, GreenPerk, as a result but we also expect to see changes in how people are choosing to travel,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;For instance, rail is undoubtedly the more environmentally-friendly travel option. In fact, taking a train over a domestic flight can reduce an individual’s carbon emissions by about 84%. We have been building out our rail inventory for a number of years now and we expect train travel to be an increasingly popular business travel option for customers this year and next.&#8221;
As for the changing mix of business-related travel in a pandemic-reconfigured world of remote work, Meir continues to argue that more businesses providing employees with remote working options will sum to more business travel overall.
&#8220;This might be bad news for the daily commute but it will result in more business travel,&#8221; he suggested. &#8220;Whether they are going fully remote and &#8216;working from anywhere&#8217;, or operating on a hybrid model, distributed teams will need (and want) to come together. We believe there will be a new type of business trip &#8212; one where team members will travel from different working hubs to get together for teambuilding and brainstorming sessions, for meetings with clients and colleagues, and even for &#8216;bleisure&#8217; (business and leisure) trips.&#8221;

TravelPerk buys UK-based Click Travel in latest pandemic purchase

There could be another USMNT player in Europa League action next season, as Konrad de la Fuente has left boyhood club Barcelona for a new club
De la Fuente, who turns 20 in mid-July and earned his first USMNT cap in November, has been sold to Ligue 1 side Marseille for just under $3.6 million after joining Barca&#8217;s famed La Masia academy at age 11.
Barca will hold onto a portion of his future sell-on rights, <a href="https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/news/2180134/agreement-for-konrad-de-la-fuente-to-join-olympique-de-marseille" target="_blank">the Catalan club announced on Tuesday</a>. The figure doesn&#8217;t quite hit <a href="https://www.flyingeze.com/news/usmnt-barcelona-prospect-konrad-de-la-fuente-targeted-by-marseille-transfer" target="_blank">the rumored fee of $6 million</a>, but Barca won&#8217;t mind the idea of making that up on the back end.

De la Fuente had Ronald Koeman as his boss and a legion of legendary Barcelona attackers in front of him to playing under Jorge Sampaoli, one of the more celebrated tacticians in the game.
Primary a left winger, De la Fuente joins highly-rated Brazilian teen Luis Henrique as young players in a talented but veteran Marseille attack corps; Dimitri Payet, Florian Thauvin, Arkadiusz Milik, Dario Benedetto, and Valere Germain are under contract at OM, with only two under the age of Milik and Thauvin.
While he leaves a La Liga that boasts USMNT talent Sergino Dest and Yunus Musah, he&#8217;ll join a Ligue 1 with an American amongst the reigning champs in Lille&#8217;s Timothy Weah.
De la Fuente and Dest became the first American teammates to appear on a Champions League pitch for the same team when <a href="https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2020/11/24/dest-de-la-fuente-usmnt-barcelona-champions-league-history-video/" target="_blank">Dest scored in a 4-0 win over Dynamo Kiev in November</a>, but is yet to make his La Liga debut.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) Barcelona added star Netherlands striker Memphis Depay to its attack on Saturday as a free agent from Lyon.

The Spanish club <a href="https://twitter.com/FCBarcelona/status/1406294071178674188" target="_blank" rel="noopener" target="_blank">said</a> the 27-year-old Depay agreed to a two-year contract.
After a stint with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven and 18 forgettable months at Manchester United, Depay joined Lyon in January 2017. His last season with Lyon was his best, scoring 20 goals.
Depay is playing for the Netherlands at the European Championship. He scored a penalty kick in its 2-0 win over Austria on Thursday.

Yunus Musah&#8217;s outstanding rise through European soccer has been as meteoric as almost any other in La Liga.
Only three players&#8217; values have risen more than the USMNT teenager, whose Transfermarkt price tag has risen 7400% since last season.
Yes, that is the appropriate amount of zeroes.

Musah, 18, is coming off a 35-appearance campaign with Valencia including 32 in La Liga, and he&#8217;s now earned six USMNT caps under Gregg Berhalter and sealed his switch from England to the United States.
<a href="https://www.transfermarkt.us/laliga/marktwertspruenge/wettbewerb/ES1" target="_blank">Transfermarkt says that Musah&#8217;s market value is now $16.5 million</a>, up approximately $16.3 million from this time last season. Only Barcelona&#8217;s Oscar Mingueza, Real Sociedad&#8217;s Martin Zubimendi, and Athletic Bilbao&#8217;s Jon Marcillo have risen their values as much or more in terms of percentage growth.

Eleven USMNT players who most grew their transfer value this year

USMNT prospect Konrad de la Fuente could be on the move this summer, with Ligue 1 side Marseille reportedly holding talks with Barcelona over a transfer for the 19-year-old American winger.

According to <a href="https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-transfers/story/4408309/marseille-in-talks-with-barcelona-over-usmnts-konrad-de-la-fuente-sources" target="_blank" rel="noopener" target="_blank">a report from ESPN</a>, Marseille are interested in an initial loan deal with an option to eventually make the transfer permanent. The permanent fee is expected to be in the neighborhood of $6 million for a player who made his Barcelona debut, in the UEFA Champions League, last season.
De la Fuente does, however, still await his first-team La Liga debut. He has been in the Barcelona system ever since joining the club in 2013. De la Fuente made his USMNT debut last November, when the Yanks played friendlies against Wales and Panama, both games in Europe.

Marseille manager Jorge Sampaoli is said to have even spoken with De la Fuente directly as part of the club&#8217;s plan to woo him east across the Mediterranean Sea. Marseille is currently owned by American businessman Frank McCourt, paving the presumed path for the arrival(s) of American talent for last season&#8217;s 5th-place finishers in Ligue 1.
While De la Fuente appeared to be on the brink of breaking into the first team last season, the subsequent arrival of Sergio Aguero and the expected arrival of Memphis Depay would seem to indicate that playing time could be even more sparse next season, making De la Fuente&#8217;s desire for a transfer all the more urgent.

Barcelona&#8217;s roster revolution continues and the latest Camp Nou addition could have serious implications for young USMNT back Sergino Dest, who is being linked with interest abroad.

Ronald Koeman&#8217;s men have signed a third player this week after Manchester City duo Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia, exercising the right to <a href="https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/football/first-team/news/2163331/fc-barcelona-sign-emerson" target="_blank">bring back right back Emerson Royal from Real Betis</a> after a two-year loan.
Emerson, 22, has been with the Andalusian club since 2019, a veritable every-week starter with five goals and 10 assists across all competitions.
<a href="https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/football/first-team/news/2163331/fc-barcelona-sign-emerson" target="_blank">Emerson is a fireball</a>, with nine yellow cards and as red in La Liga this season, and he’s not as smooth a passer as Dest. But Emerson is superior in almost every defensive metric — noting of course that Betis has to play quite a bit more defense than possession-centric Barca.
Barca&#8217;s announcement points out that only three La Liga defenders have contributed more assists than Emerson over the past two seasons: new teammate Jordi Alba, Sevilla&#8217;s Jesús Navas, and Atlético Madrid&#8217;s Kieran Trippier.
So what does this mean for Dest, who <a href="https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2020/09/22/sergino-dest-transfer-ajax-barcelona-usmnt-americans-abroad/" target="_blank">moved to Barca from Ajax</a> last summer? The 20-year-old scored thrice with an assist in 44 appearances for Barcelona this season, winning the Copa del Rey.
A report from Sport&#8217;s Toni Juanmarti claims that Arsenal, Juventus, and Bayern Munich have all expressed interest in Dest, but the USMNT man is dedicated to succeeding at Barcelona.
Would a move make sense? Dest is still a phenomenal talent and the same reporter claims that Sergi Roberto will leave Barca if Koeman stays, the manager&#8217;s status still up in the air after an uneven first season in Catalonia. We&#8217;d bet on Dest staying as the club rebuild continues and &#8212; in theory &#8212; Lionel Messi looks to lead Barca back to the top of La Liga.
