Presidency refutes Kwankwaso’s claim of Northern neglect

The Presidency has dismissed claims by former Kano State governor and NNPP chieftain, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is marginalising Northern Nigeria in terms of infrastructural development.

Kwankwaso had alleged during a stakeholders’ dialogue in Kano on Thursday that the federal government was concentrating development in the South at the expense of the North. In response, Presidential spokesman Sunday Dare, in a post on his X handle, said Kwankwaso’s claims were “wrong,” asserting that the North is not being neglected.

Dare highlighted several major projects underway in the region, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway, Sokoto-Badagry superhighway, and the Kano-Maiduguri road. He also cited significant investments in healthcare with upgrades to teaching hospitals in Zaria, Katsina, Jos, Sokoto, and the revitalisation of over 1,000 primary health centres.

In agriculture, Dare referenced the $158.15 million Agriculture Value Chain programme for nine Northern states and the Kolmani oil project in Bauchi and Gombe. Energy and rail infrastructure projects like the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas Pipeline and Kaduna-Kano rail line were also mentioned.

“All of these achievements have been recorded within just two years of President Tinubu’s administration,” Dare stated.
