The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, suggested on Monday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may struggle in 2027 due to ineffective leadership.

Wike stated that the leadership of the PDP lacks direction, dedication, and is uncertain about the necessary actions to take.

During his end-of-year media discussion, Wike emphasized that with the right leadership, the PDP should begin preparing for 2031.

He remarked: “We have a leadership that is unfocused, a leadership that does not know what to do, and a leadership that disregards suggestions.

“If the leadership were committed, I would return to say, 'Look, we have made a mistake. Why are things unfolding this way now? What can we do to rectify it?'

“It’s not solely about seizing government; we must properly position ourselves. If the leadership is strong, they need to take this into account.

“By 2027, it is likely that we may not succeed, but are we going to let the party fade away? Shouldn't we begin rebuilding now in preparation for 2031?”

The Minister also asserted that the former ruling party could regain power if its leadership demonstrates commitment.

“Nothing is impossible when there is commitment. Firstly, what is occurring within my party is what I have previously predicted. I have warned that if things are not managed correctly, this is the outcome we will face. No Nigerian can claim they did not hear me. I have expressed this numerous times.

“Leadership is vital in all our endeavors; leadership in organizations and in government is crucial.

“If leaders fail to make the right choices, we will experience the repercussions,” he added.
