LIVERPOOL has presented league winner’s medals to 14 former players decades after they contributed to the club lifting the title.
The medals were specially crafted and awarded at an emotional ceremony at Anfield to honor stars who were unfairly overlooked due to old regulations that imposed strict appearance requirements.

Each medal is engraved with the player’s name and the season in which they contributed to the team's success, even if they did not meet the appearance threshold at that time.
Reds legend Sir Kenny Dalglish handed out the honors, accompanied by club chief Jonathan Bamber.
Among those finally recognized were David Fairclough, Alan Kennedy, Terry McDermott, and Jan Molby, all of whom were pivotal during Liverpool’s golden years.
John Wark even received two medals, having played nine times in both the 1983-84 and 1985-86 title-winning seasons.
Other players who finally received their medal moment include David Hodgson from 1983-84 (5 appearances), Chris Lawler from 1963-64 (6 appearances, collected by his son), Ronny Rosenthal from 1989-90 (8 appearances), and Paul Walsh from 1987-88 (8 appearances).
Four stars who were unable to attend the event will have their medals sent to them.
They include Steve Heighway, Colin Irwin, and Sammy Lee from the 1979-80 season, as well as Alec Lindsay from the 1975-76 season.
In a heartfelt tribute, a posthumous medal was awarded to the family of Joey Jones, who made 13 appearances during the 1975-76 campaign.
Bamber stated: “It was an emotional night for many.
“These players played a significant role in Liverpool’s history, and we’re proud to finally honor them appropriately.”
This recognition comes as the club celebrates its achievements, with these players now officially part of that illustrious legacy.
