What is gestational diabetes?
GESTATIONAL diabetes is high blood sugar (glucose) that develops during pregnancy.
It can happen at any stage of pregnancy, but is more common in the second or third trimester and usually disappears after giving birth.
Gestational diabetes happens when your body cannot produce enough insulin – a hormone that helps control blood sugar levels – to meet your extra needs in pregnancy.
It can cause problems during pregnancy and after birth.
Symptoms include:
- increased thirst
- needing to pee more often than usual
- a dry mouth
- tiredness
- blurred eyesight
- genital itching or thrush
The risks from gestational diabetes can be reduced if the condition is detected early and well managed.
Laura also opened up about how her pregnancy has been progressing, giving followers a candid insight into her journey so far.
