POLICE have opened an enquiry after a football club chairman was found shot dead in his car – near a resort popular with UK holidaymakers.

Businessman Hristo Burgazliev was president of Bulgarian outfit OFC Pomorie, based on the Black Sea coast.

But emergency services found him unresponsive, with a bullet wound to his head, at the wheel of his on Monday afternoon.

The horrific incident took place just a quarter of a mile from a currency exchange owned by Burgazliev.

Pomorie is a major tourist draw, and just ten miles from the vast Sunny Beach resort long beloved by .

OFC Pomorie, located near the major city of Burgas, play in Bulgaria’s fourth tier.

They were twice second division runners-up, in 2011 and 2016, and reached the Bulgarian Cup final in 2010.

Burgazliev was the father of European dance champion Hristina Burgazlieva, and also an investor in .

Local reports claimed the businessman had been shot at close range, while either parking his car or setting off on a journey.

have since scoured CCTV images in a bid to trace his potential killer.

Investigators are however yet to rule out suicide as a possible cause of death.

Burgazliev was not known to have debts, and his currency business is said to have prospered following Bulgaria’s recent adoption of the euro.
