Huge free upgrade handed out to PlayStation owners that slashes your bills – & there’s a bonus benefit for gamers too

PLAYSTATION fans are getting a massive free upgrade – and it could save you money on your energy bills while giving gamers a new bonus feature at the same time.

The software update dropped worldwide on September 17, including here in the UK – and brings two major changes to the PS5 alongside the usual bug fixes and stability tweaks.

You can now pair one controller with up to four devices and switch between them without having to keep re-pairing

The first new feature is a power saver mode.

This clever setting lets you trim down the energy use by slightly scaling back performance.

You can find it by heading to Settings, Power Saving, Use Power Saver.

It can be switched on or off for each supported game, and when it’s running, you’ll see a small icon pop up in the Switcher menu so you know it’s active.

The usually draws around 200-220 watts while gaming, so cutting that down could lower your , especially if you play for hours.

says the feature is part of its ‘Road to Zero’ plan, which aims to reduce the company’s environmental impact.

The second big change is for the DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers.

You can now pair one controller with up to four devices and switch between them without having to keep re-pairing.

This means you can easily move between your PS5, gaming PC, or even a friend’s console for local multiplayer.

Sony explained: “It’s now possible to pair your controller with multiple devices.

“You can register up to 4 devices and switch the device you’re connected to using your controller.”

But there is a catch – the power saver mode doesn’t work on every game yet.

Mystic claims no games currently support it, though Sony has teased that Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yōtei will get the feature soon – with more titles expected later.

So while you might not save money just yet, this is a step in the right direction – and PS5 owners are already enjoying the new controller convenience.
