Adetokunbo Pearse, a former member of the Atiku Abubakar 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee, on Thursday said Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State stands a good chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Pearse said Makinde has the capacity and character to challenge Tinubu during the 2027 presidential election.

The Lagos PDP chieftain spoke on TVC’s programme, This Morning with Uncle Yori, while reacting to the party zoning its presidential ticket to the South.

He said the PDP’s zoning its ticket to the South would have given former presidential candidate Peter Obi the chance to run for presidency.

According to Pearse: “So long as the zoning is made to the South, Seyi Makinde is not the person from the South, he’s from the Southwest. Anybody from the Southwest, Southeast, South-South can contest, and that’s why some people are trying to bring in Jonathan to come and contest.

“If Obi had been in the party, this would have been his time to run for office, this thing is not zoned to any individual.

“Makinde would come into the race and contest, he has been doing a lot of things to contest and doing a lot to impress the party and delegates to support him, so if he gets the nomination, he becomes our candidate and all of us will support him.

“I happened to be a person who has declared his interest in supporting him, so I’m promoting because based on his records and character that he (Makinde) will be a great candidate and stands a good chance of defeating Tinubu in 2027.

“That’s my position, he’s not going to be the only one running unless everybody else decides not to run.

“I think so, know so, and believe it sincerely that Makinde can take on Tinubu.”
