A PEDESTRIAN has died after he was hit by a car while getting out of his broken down vehicle on a motorway, it is understood.
were called to the A1(M) near Stevenage at around 1.20am on Saturday following reports of a vehicle collision.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the pedestrian in his 30s died at the scene.
The victim is believed to have been getting out of a broken-down Civic on May 9.
The car had stopped on a grass verge near the slip road before the fatal incident.
The drivers of both vehicles involved in the crash stayed at the scene to help Hertfordshire Police with its .
The force is calling for anyone with information about the incident to contact it via its website or anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers.
Detective Sergeant Ben Heath, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Firstly, my thoughts go out to the man’s loved ones at this sad time.
“We are appealing for witnesses, information and dash cam footage as we work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
“At this stage, we believe the man may have been exiting a broken-down silver Honda Civic that was stationary on the grass verge near to the slip road.
