Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has reaffirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the largest political force in sub-Saharan Africa.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday during a meeting of the PDP National Convention Protocol Committee, Fintiri expressed that, beyond his personal beliefs, the PDP has played a significant role in every major achievement he has made in his life.
He stated that preparations are in full swing for the party’s upcoming national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, with the compilation of delegates’ lists already in progress.
“I want to assure you that we are fully committed and will leave no stone unturned. We are dedicated and making sacrifices to ensure a successful convention and campaign,” Fintiri remarked.
“The chairman (Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau) mentioned that I will be in Ibadan for one week. However, I might extend my stay to three weeks.
“Aside from my faith in Islam, the PDP is the next organization that has provided me with everything I have accomplished in life. I will always be grateful to this party.
“Under our leadership, we will not allow this party to falter. The commitment of our members shows that everyone is determined.”
The governor assured that the convention would be credible and transparent, emphasizing that the new National Working Committee members would be individuals of integrity and competence.
“When we present them, the country will recognize that the PDP is still vibrant,” he stated.
“We will not deny anyone the opportunity to contest. I will personally ensure that the screening process is transparent.
“Everyone who has purchased forms will be screened as long as there are no issues with their documents or records.
“Go out and test your popularity in the field, as we are finalizing the names of the delegates.
“If you believe you are popular, take to the field and demonstrate your strength. Ultimately, those supported by the majority will emerge victorious.
“People are beginning to trust and show commitment to our efforts. In the end, we will offer the responsible leadership necessary to advance this party.”
Reiterating his earlier remarks, Fintiri described the PDP as the “largest and most prominent party in sub-Saharan Africa,” urging members to stay focused and committed to ensuring the success of the convention.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, who chairs the convention’s protocol subcommittee, praised the enthusiasm and mobilization seen across the country.
He noted that the energy and unity being exhibited ahead of the Ibadan convention reflect the PDP’s determination to reclaim its status as Nigeria’s leading opposition party.
